About Paula
Musician and Vocalist Paula Compton passed up a music scholarship at the University of Southern California, said goodbye to Zubin Meta, the L.A. Philharmonic and her classical career. They called her a child prodigy. She just wanted to hang out at the beach and practice her instrument. Compton nailed an audition with Frank Zappa by playing a classical piece backwards with Frank wildly conducting her, only to be told she was too young to take on tour. She did catch the ear of Jazz Legends Buddy Rich and Louie Belson. She knew she would learn more in one week with those guys than in a lifetime at any school. Paula picked up many instruments along the way. One by one, flute, cello, sax, piano, midi wind synths, it didn’t matter. After a long run as a Tower Records Advertising and Marketing Executive, Paula took many gigs with musicians like Buddy Miles, Jac Mihanovic and became a force to be reckoned with at a time when a strong female lead was intimidating.
